For weeks now there have been rumors about an appreciation week for the scion of the illustrious Medarda House. We are glad to be the first to report on the good news in this year's 1st Mel Issue: yes, there will indeed be an appreciation week for the ever-enigmatic Mel Medarda.From August 21st to 28th, a full week will be devoted to creating fanwork for the former council member, interacting with the community of people appreciating the recent Medarda successor, and perhaps even finding new reasons to hold space for even more love for her.As this will be a Mel Medarda appreciation week — also known as fanweek — the sole focus will be on dedicating love, time and creativity to this character only.If this article has sparked your interest, be sure to follow us on your preferred platform, bookmark this carrd and highlight August 21st to 28th in your calendar.
How to participate?
You can participate both by creating for this week inspired by the set of prompts we offer — or by supporting creators and their content by leaving words of encouragement, reposting works you feel passionate about, as well as kudo-ing and liking.There is no minimum requirement to appreciating Mel Medarda. You can create for all prompts or just those that inspire you. There is no "too much" and no "too little". We cherish everything Mel you decide to share with us. Which you can do by e.g. writing fanfiction, painting or sketching fanart (traditionally, digitally or both), creating edits and gifsets of any kind, cosplaying as Mel or all of the above.Participation is greatly encouraged. There are no criteria to be met. Any and all contributions are welcome. Let your creativity run free and celebrate the luminous Mel Medarda with us!

The main focus of this week lies on appreciating and uplifting Mel Medarda, a character from the celebrated Netflix show Arcane. Therefore all contributions should center Mel.Creations that belittle, degrade or sideline her in any way will not be tolerated. The focus of this week is Mel Medarda. Thus we implore you to respect her character and portray her appropriately.Be careful of your language and mindful of the tropes you use to avoid falling into racial stereotypes or perpetuating misogynoir. Refrain from whitewashing her in your fanwork. This applies to both her skintone as well as her features. To avoid this you can:
reference Arcane screenshots as well as real-life black women,
inquire second opinions by other artists and editors,
or consult the various tutorials creators have offered on different platforms.

Your contribution has to umistakingly focus Mel Medarda as this is a fan week meant to embrace Mel, an often underappreciated character from the Arcane universe.
This event is not limited to councilwoman Mel Medarda. You are free to choose which phase(s) of her life or alternate universes you will create for — all versions of Mel are welcome.
The creation of ship content and content with other characters is allowed. We ask you to tag your ships and dynamics accordingly.
In doing so you help your fellow participants to curate their own timeline to their liking, making it easier for them to engage with content they personally feel comfortable with.
Note: Incestous and pedophilic relationships won't be tolerated under any circumstances.Reposting stolen or plagiarized works will also not be tolerated. The use of AI is not permitted under any circumstances. To participate in this fan week you will have to create your own original work.
